Ducati: E-400 MTB
Could this be the most beautiful electric MTB of all time? We certainly think so! Ducati’s E-400 is Engineered by Italian bicycle legends Bianchi with sleek aluminium tubing, then fitted with Bosch’s industry-leading 250W motor and 400Wh battery
Whilst it is 100% street-legal for your daily commute, the E-400 really comes into it’s own when taken off the beaten track; it will effectively double the power output from your legs so as you aim for the steepest of dirt climbs, it’s as though there’s also a super-fit 18 year old version of yourself pedaling with you!
This amplified approach to dirt trails means that you hit the peak of every climb with total composure, even though you’re pushing yourself to the limit. Each ascent gets faster and faster and as soon as you start the descent, as gravity begins to take over, you’re capable of giving it your all: you won’t need to rest your legs for the first part of a downhill stretch anymore, so you really can get the absolute maximum speed out of yourself and the bike at all times
In tests, we managed 26.1Kph up Brooklands Test Hill in 22.5 seconds, a climb which rises to a 1:4. This was less than double the time of some tricked-out cars which tackled it on the same day, meanwhile an 850cc motorcycle didn’t make it up the hill at all!
What we really like about this model is that you can push yourself harder and for longer than you normally would and enjoy every moment of every ride. Battery worries are a thing of the past too; this one has a theoretical range of London to Brighton and back again. We will do this shortly… in the meantime; thrashing absolutely everyone at the lights is just so much fun!
