Barclays Charity Event: Richard House & Wooden Spoon

17 members of the Barclays team are taking on the big challenge of cycling from London to Monte Carlo on the 30th August for two charities: Wooden Spoon and Richard House Children’s hospice. During the fundraising charity dinner on 11th July, there will be an auction with all money going directly to the two charities. Along with the cycle, the goal is to raise £100,000.

Richard House provide care and support to families with children and young people who live with life limiting, life threatening conditions or complex healthcare needs. They provide short respite breaks where a child may undertake many activities such as art or music therapy or sessions in the multi-sensory room. Further services they provide could be (but not limited to) outreach care in the family home, sibling activities, parent befriending groups, end of life care and bereavement support. All care and support is focused on each families specific needs and is free to the families that use them. The charity requires £3million a year to keep Richard House open.

Wooden Spoon supports a diverse range of children’s disabilities and illnesses including cancer, leukemia cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, autism, moderate to severe complex learning difficulties, as well as children and young people who have been physically or mentally disabled through trauma or accident. Every year they fund a wide variety of capital projects to meet these needs, including children’s hospices and hospitals, sensory rooms and gardens and specialist playgrounds to mention only a few. Wooden Spoon itself is a key supporter of Richard House.
