Bicycle: The Film

Bicycle: The Film

The new feature-length documentary on the bicycle and cycling gets first public airing on Friday the 4th of July 2014. Here’s the trailer…

Bicycle, a 90-minute documentary, gets its public world premiere at the Yorkshire Festival Of Cycling this Friday, ahead of the ceremonial start of the Tour de France. Directed by BAFTA winning Michael B. Clifford, the screening will take place on a huge outdoor screen powered by cyclists.

Clifford made the film to explore the question why is the bicycle back in fashion? “It is great to see a film about this beautiful machine coming out,” said Chris Boardman, and who’s featured in the film along with a great many other British and international bicycle personalies (and me).

The film tells the story of cycling and its birth, decline and rebirth. The film weaves bicycle design, sport and transport through the retelling of some iconic stories and features interviews with notable contributors such as Sir Dave Brailsford, Gary Fisher, Chris Boardman, Ned Boulting, Sir Chris Hoy, Tracy Moseley, Mike Burrows, Melissa Henry, John Grimshaw and more. There’s also a great deal of archive footage and bespoke – ahem – animation.

The film will be on limited cinema release throughout the summer and will come out on DVD in September.
