Maria Leijerstram and her trike: first to pedal there.

In December 2013 Maria Leijerstram became the first person to pedal all the way to the South Pole on her recumbent trike. Just a few miles behind her was Daniel Burton on a fat bike and Juan Menendez Granados who is riding fully unsupported.

Some commentators are saying that a recumbent trike ‘isn’t a bicycle’, so either Daniel or Juan will be the first ‘proper bikes’ to make the voyage. We say they’re all awesome!
